Man of the Match Voted for by Dafen Coach: Taylor Thorley.
At last a performance that we all knew Taylor had in him, much better concentration and a lot less talking enabled Taylor to focus on the job in hand. If it hadn't of been for some superb goalkeeping along with goal line clearance defending from Camfords rear guard then he would of had at least 5 goals but as i always say first you have to get in the right positions and today Taylor certainly did that. Well done BOYO!!! (CJ) A beautiful crisp sunny morning saw Dafen make the long trip, to Llanerch Fields, to play old adversaries Camford Blues. The adoring Dafen faithful made the journey to support the boys in blue, hopefully, to another victory in what is turning out to be potentially their best season so far.
1st Quarter: Camford came firing out of the blocks from the off and almost instantly Tom was involved in the action between the Dafen posts. He made a great save from an on target effort tipping the ball around the posts for a Camford corner. Camford seemed intent on scoring early and from the corner Lloyd made a terrific headed clearance. Camford had clearly set out their plan and that was to attack and pressure the Dafen defence. Liam and Adam were up to the challenge and with their captain, Lloyd, battling hard alongside them they managed to keep the Camford forwards out. With the initial scares over Dafen started to do what they do best, pass the ball about. Adam played a cracking cross field pass to Joe who was just inside his own half, Joe went on a run that took him past 2 Camford players, he looked up to see Dafens goal machine, Nathan Bowen, free on the left just outside the box. Joe delivered the ball superbly into Nathans path and GOAL!!!! Camford looked absolutely stunned as this was Dafens first real move and attack that had put them behind. Camford pressed from the restart but this time they met up with Liam who calmly dispossessed the advancing forward, to start the next piece of, what can only be described as, "sexy football". Liam took the ball up the right flank until a Camford player challenged him, he then passed inside to Lloyd who with one touch passed back outside to Joe on the right wing. Joe took the ball down the line and with a Camford player snapping at his heels, he then looked up and picked out Daniel Johnson making a superb run toward the near post. Joe put the ball exactly where it needed to go, just in front of Daniel and not to close to the Camford keeper. Daniel ran onto the ball and put it calmly past the diving keeper into the net. "Sexy football" at its best!!!!!
1st Quarter score: Camford 0 Dafen 2
2nd Quarter: Dafen made some changes that saw Lucas come on in place of Adam, Morgan for Joe, Taylor for Daniel and Tyler on for Nathan. With Camford still reeling from two exquisite goals, they now had to face practically a different side, but these new introductions to the line up were not about to be outdone by their team mates who played in the first quarter. The Dafen team continued in exactly the same way and attacked Camford instantly. Morgan was straight in on the action as he raced into the Camford box only to be met with a stiff tackle. Lloyd was now really starting to pull the strings in the centre of midfield and sprayed a lovely pass out to Tyler on the left, Tyler drove at the Camford goal but his shot fell just wide. It was all Dafen now as they went in pursuit of the third goal. Another chance fell to Tyler from a corner but unfortunately once again he shot wide. A player who had been bit quiet during his first minutes of the game was about to enter the frame as it was to turn into the Taylor Thorley show. Lucas James made an excellent interception and delivered the ball inside to Tyler, he then passed the ball to Morgan who spotted Taylor on the edge of the box. Taylor took the ball in stride and with some excellent footwork danced his way around 2 defenders into the box, it looked like he had taken to long but not only did he fool me as he twisted and turned, he also fooled the defenders and the keeper, as he made room to get the ball onto his left and fired the ball into the Camford net for Dafens third. As soon as Taylor had scored, the ball just kept finding him and from excellent work down both flanks from Tyler and Morgan, Taylor had one cleared off the line, one unbelievably saved by the excellent Camford keeper and one he put just wide from a corner. It was fantastically exciting stuff, with Taylors Mum leading the screaming, (as usual). Taylor ended the quarter by setting up an opportunity for Lloyd, he laid a lovely ball across the box which invited Lloyd to hit a power shot from just outside the box. Lloyds shot was superb and on target but the Camford keeper was brave and managed to tip it over the bar.
2nd Quarter score: Camford 0 Dafen 3
3rd Quarter: Dafen again made changes with Adam on in place of Liam, Joe on for Lloyd, Dan on for Taylor and Nath on for Tyler. The game continued in similar fashion with Dafen passing the ball around the gritty Camford team. Lucas was growing in confidence and not only was he tackling well, he was using the ball with great passing to the feet of his team mates. Adam on the left side of defence was as strong and safe as ever and it was from him that the next Dafen goal bound move started. Adam broke up the Camford play and smoothly passed the ball down the line to Nathan, he drove at the Camford defence and when they committed themselves to stopping him, he hit a stunning ball across the pitch toward the far post where Daniel Johnson was arriving at pace. Like a true centre forward Daniel made no mistake and buried the ball into the back of the net for his second of the game and Dafens fourth. Camford gamely tried to press from the restart but this time they were met with a piece of sheer individual brilliance from Joe Stephens. He collected the ball from just inside his own half and proceeded to run at the Camford players. With pace and skill that took him all the way into the box, he coolly sent the keeper the wrong way as he netted his first ever goal in the famous Dafen colours.
3rd Quarter score: Camford 0 Dafen 5
4th Quarter: The last quarter saw Liam on for Lucas, Lloyd on for Joe, Taylor on for Daniel and Tyler on for Nathan. Camford came out for the final quarter looking like a different team, it was as if now they new the game was over they relaxed and began to play. It was a really open end to end quarter that saw both goal keepers in action. As if inspired by Joes individual goal one of the Camford players done exactly the same thing. He went on a lovely jinking run that took him past the Dafen players and shooting an unstoppable finish past Tom in goal. All the Dafen supporters applauded the goal as it really was well deserved. Dafen continued to pressure the Camford goal but the keeper made even more saves from Taylor, Tyler, Lloyd and a truly amazing stop from Mogzy. With only seconds to go Camford won a corner, they packed all their players in the box and as the ball came across it was met with a sweet strike that rippled the back of the net for Camfords second. Tom in goal had hardly had anything to do for most of the game and in the last quarter he had to pick the ball out of his net twice, from shots that he really had no chance of stopping, he was not amused but as someone once said, "its a funny old game".
Final score: Camford 2 Dafen 5
